Race Packs introduce a new playable Race to the game, either as a first appearance, or adding a full Unit roster, Heroes, Lords and playable Legendary Lords to non-playable existing races in the core game. Given their power and rarity, you might only be able to field one unit of them at a time, or they may be subject to other restrictions. Typically they’ll reflect the theme of the Pack, probably having been instrumental in the conflict. They might have upgraded stats, different arms or armour, or an unusual ability or two. ‘Units of Renown’ are elite versions of otherwise already existing units.

Themed on a specific rivalry or conflict from the Warhammer Lore, Lord Packs contain brand new Legendary Lords and supporting units and characters for existing playable races.

"The Warhammer Fantasy Battles World is gigantic, and we’re looking forward to exploring it over the forthcoming trilogy. "With both Rome II and Attila we were able to release playable factions, new formats and even a free campaign expansion as a thanks to players for supporting Total War," said Rob Bartholomew, Brand Director at CA. The good news is that there's going to be free DLC, which includes units, Heroes, Legendary Lords and even an entirely new playable Race that should be made available at the end of the year. The developer has already confirmed that Total War: Warhammer will be a trilogy and that DLC will be released before the second game is revealed. Creative Assembly are starting to talk about its plans for the DLC process with Total War: Warhammer after it releases on the 24th May.
